The Twitter takeover by the world’s richest man has seen a lot o major changes under his leadership scheme. One of the major agendas of Mr. Musk is to defeat spam and scam on the social media platform. As part of the changes after he bought Twitter for $44bn said it was “essential to defeat spam/scam”.
Elon Musk has said that Twitter will charge $8 (GHC 112.53p) monthly to Twitter users who want a blue tick by their name indicating a verified account. A blue tick mark next to a username- normally for high-profile figures is currently free. According to BBC, this specific move from Elon will make it difficult to identify reliable sources as many have critics.
The Tesla owner said that paid users would have priority in replies and searches, and half as many advertisements. He tweeted “Power to the people! Blue for $8/month.” Mr. Musk added “Lords and peasants system”, condemning the old way of allowing blue tick verification.

Twitter had an old way of verifying users for a blue tick. This included a short online application form, and was reserved for those whose identities werre Target for impersonation. Such groups were the celebrities, politicians and journalists. The system was introduced in the year 2009, after the company was sued for not doing their best to prevent an imposter accounts.
In the business of advertisements on the social media platform, many giants companies have halted their advertisements. Mr. Elon Musk’s Tesla rival company, General Motors (an electric car company) have suspend advertising on Twitter. As reported on BBC news site, some major brands have more quietly put a temporary hold up on advertising on Twitter as they are eager in knowing the actual plans of Mr. Elon Musk take over.
This has been one of the challenges Mr. Musk is facing as he took over Twitter, he has barely yielded profits over the years.
No matter what happens, the aim still stands. Mr. Musk wrote to Mr. King saying “We need to pay the bills somehow!”.
