Reggae/dancehall artiste, Shatta Wale, was on 3MUSIC TV’s CULTURE DAILY on February 16, 2024, where he spoke about many things.
After the interview, social media was set ablaze with mixed reactions with some believing his response to questions were underwhelming.
Co-host of CULTURE DAILY and Pop Culture journalist, Olele Salvador, took to social media to express why he thinks that was Shatta Wale’s best interview ever with a Ghanaian Media house.
He wrote;
“ICYMI : Since last night, I’ve been fighting tooth and nail on behalf of 3 MUSIC on the internet post-Shatta Wale interview. Some say we let him get away with certain things he said & that his answers to the intellectual questions we asked were underwhelming. To be honest, that’s their opinion and they’re entitled to that but it’s very subjective.
“I also think it was Shatta Wale’s best interview ever with any Ghanaian media house. Why?
“Before this interview, we were told by people close to him during our pre-show research that Shatta Wale is a ‘sweet’ person; there’s a ‘sweet side’ of him. What we DECIDED to do was to HIGHLIGHT the sweet side of him & the results is what y’all are seeing.
“We didn’t go into the convo to talk about his music or his beefs; we went in there to find out how a sweet person has been perceived to be bitter to the public. Whether it was his fault or we(media) have played a part in it? These questions were answered. Every other thing was a bonus and very on brand with him.
“Let’s be honest, the same section of the public would have cared less if we spoke to Shatta Wale about the music business; “I’m surprised at some of these reactions tbvh lol
“We are not on the show to settle personal scores; we are on there to entertain and inform, even with that some say they didn’t learn anything.
“So for those of you who said you didn’t learn anything NEW from the Shatta Wale interview, here are about 12 things you missed out on(there could be more):
“1. Shatta Wale was a victim of a circumstance; a broken home— parents were going through a bitter divorce & that affected him; he had to leave home.
“2. His father was/is a politician; he had seen money at a very young age & lived a luxurious life. He didn’t know what it meant to suffer until he was allowed to step outside to play basketball with his friends where he heard them murmur about hunger & poverty.
“3. His father didn’t want him to do music but pursue another career that matched his father’s status.
“4. His uncle dared him that choosing to do music was a spit to his father’s status in society and that he could never be a star. Another reason why he left home to the streets.
“5. He didn’t leave home because he was poor. But he wanted to make his own money & be successful to prove a point.
“6. According to him, when he broke out as Bandanna with ‘Moko Ho,’ he lost his mojo of making hit songs. For 6 years he looked for a hit song and nothing worked; people couldn’t recognize him. He fell into an abyss of frustration.
“7. He was denied an opportunity to play at Movado’s concert at the Accra Sports stadium in 2011 which was hosted by Samini. According to him, his close friend at the time hugged him and told him in Ga that one day he would fill the stadium with his own concert. That was the strongest trigger.
“8. He had an ‘encounter’ with God in his 10 years of obscurity away from home where he ‘struck a deal’ to give him one more chance at this superstardom. It was a hellish experience until he returned as Shatta Wale.
“9. Shatta did music to prove a point to his father and his uncle; make his own money and become his own King but it’s become a beast that he has to manage daily.
“10. He’s not proud of his alter ego but that is what has made him come this far so he has to embrace it.
“11. He’s no longer doing music for the money; he has made it & he’s very okay.
- “12. He believes that his brand doesn’t inspire violence, either by himself or to his fans but rather discipline & fighting for what is rightfully yours.
