Ghanaian musician, Fameye, has made bold claims that the annual Ghana Music Awards (GMA) organized by Charterhouse is more significant than the Grammys and BET since he’s a Ghanaian.
Speaking to Nana Romeo in an interview on ACCRA FM, the ‘Praise’ hitmaker asserted that he used to place the Grammys in a higher order to the extent that, he was once said in a song titled ‘Destiny’, “GRAMMYs, I want to be there”.
According to Fameye, he could have used Ghana Music Awards in that line but that mindset of an upcomer made him used the Grammys.
He went on to say that he once said in an interview with Zion Felix that he wants to win BET.
He believes the hype around the Grammys and BET has made it look like they’re the standards, but as Ghanaian, he believes the Ghana Music Awards is more significant.
“Growing up I loved music and entertainment and I was close to anything that made me happy.
“So I was so fond of Ghana Music Awards back then when artistes will be performing and getting up on stage for their awards. Seeing Okomfour Kwadee, Ofori Amponsah and Kwaw Kese’s on the GMA stage was just a spectacle and made me loved it and saw so much value in it.
“It’s part of the things that drove my music vision but when coming up and you want to be a star, because the Grammys and BET have a certain hype around them, and we the blacks always appreciate anything from the whites, you’ll place much value on them.
“I once said in a song titled “Destiny” that, ‘GRAMMYs, I want to be there’. I hadn’t become a star then…I could’ve used Ghana Music Awards instead.
“And when I had my first hit in 2019, I said in an interview with Zion Felix that I’ll win BET next year. But I haven’t won any; though I’m still working. But I have won Ghana Music Awards which is more valuable than the Grammys and BET because I’m a Ghanaian.” — Fameye.
