The advancement of mobile phone charging technology has been remarkable in recent years. Initially, the maximum fast charging capacity was 27W, but by 2020, it had increased to 65W. As of 2021, the charging power has soared to 125W and beyond, with some phones capable of handling up to 210W.
Currently, there is a push towards 300W super-fast charging, with Redmi showcasing a modified Redmi Note 12 Pro+ that can handle a 300W charge and fully charge in just 5 minutes. Reports suggest that a mass-produced model may be launched in the latter half of the year. However, Redmi is not the only company exploring fast-charging technology.

According to reports, Oppo, a Chinese brand, is developing technology that allows for 300W fast charging, similar to Xiaomi’s recently announced technology. It’s said that Oppo has created comparable technology, and that there are no brand-specific limitations to achieving such fast charging speeds. A well-known Weibo tech blogger named @DCS has shared that Oppo’s charging system uses special high-rate batteries with a capacity of 2220/2230 mAh at 15C. This would be equivalent to a capacity of 4600mAh and should be capable of handling 300W fast charging

Simply using a high-capacity battery won’t suffice for achieving 300W high-power rapid charging. The entire charging system, including chargers, mobile devices, and charging designs, needs to be optimized and improved. To reduce size, the design of the 300W charging chip needs to utilize the latest GaN (gallium nitride) technology. Without it, it will be challenging to control the size of the charging head and the mobile device. Although the 300W battery has a smaller capacity than the more familiar 100W fast charging + 5000 mAh battery, its charging time is significantly shorter, and there are trade-offs to be made in terms of battery life.
