Two workers of Pizzaman, a popular fast-food restaurant chain in Ghana, have been sentenced to 5 years imprisonment each for stealing 20 boxes of chicken wings and gallons of cooking oil from the company’s warehouse located in Nyankyerenease.
The theft was reported to the executive chef by the warehouse manager on Monday, May 1, 2023, who informed the chef that two (2) Oki cooking oil and eight (8) boxes of chicken wings had been stolen from the warehouse. Upon hearing the news, the chef quickly went to take the daily stock and discovered that the items had indeed been stolen.
An emergency meeting was held on the same day, where the workers were asked to provide the stolen items. During the interrogation, one of the workers, Rashid Abdullah, admitted to seeing the other worker, Seidu Karim, hiding two gallons of Oki cooking oil behind the fence wall. In his defense, Seidu Karim stated that he saw Rashid Abdullah hiding two boxes of chicken wings at the back of the fence wall.
The stolen items were retrieved from the workers, and they were later handed over to the Asuoyeboah police command, where investigations were conducted. In the course of the investigations, Seidu Karim confessed to stealing twenty (20) gallons of Oki cooking oil from the company over a two-month period.
The accused persons were charged with the offense and were sentenced to 5 years imprisonment in hard labor each by the Kwadaso Circuit Court.
This incident highlights the need for companies to put in place robust security measures to prevent theft and other forms of criminal activity. It is also a reminder of the importance of honesty and integrity in the workplace. Stealing from one’s employer is not only illegal but also a breach of trust and can result in severe consequences.
the sentencing of the two workers of Pizzaman for stealing is a clear message that theft in the workplace will not be tolerated, and those caught will face the full force of the law. It is hoped that this incident will serve as a deterrent to others and promote honesty and integrity in the workplace.
