Mauritius – The National Paralympic Committee (NPC) of Ghana, with support from the Commonwealth Games Association (CGA) through the Ghana Olympic Committee, has secured a spot for the country’s para-athletics team at the prestigious 2024 Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF) GAPS training camp in Mauritius. Running from November 4th to 13th, this international camp is designed to equip developing para-athletes and coaches with valuable skills, knowledge, and training opportunities as they prepare for future competitions, including the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.
The training camp offers a comprehensive program, featuring technical sessions, coach development workshops, and presentations on sports psychology. The CGF GAPS initiative supports Commonwealth nations by advancing the development of para-athletes and building the capacity of coaches across the globe.

Representing NPC Ghana are Coach Ibrahim Suleman and seasoned para-athlete Zinabu Issah PLY, who recently competed in the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games. Zinabu’s participation is particularly notable, as he finished third out of 23 para-athletes in a recent competition held as part of the Mauritius training camp, showcasing Ghana’s rising talent on the international stage. Zinabu’s experience will be invaluable to new athletes attending the camp, aligning with the camp’s goal of knowledge-sharing among seasoned and emerging para-athletes.
The NPC Ghana expressed gratitude for the ongoing collaboration with the Ghana Olympic Committee, which has been instrumental in providing platforms for Ghanaian para-athletes to thrive on the world stage. As the 2026 Commonwealth Games approach, this training camp is an essential step in preparing Ghana’s para-athletes for further international representation.
