The Electoral Commission (EC) has announced the immediate recall and reprinting of ballot papers for the Eastern and Western regions after a reported security breach. Jean Mensa, Chairperson of the EC, disclosed during an emergency press briefing on Sunday, December 1, 2024, that the decision was based on a report from National Security.
According to EC, the report revealed that a single defaced ballot paper, earmarked for destruction, was found at the Checkpoint Printing House, the facility responsible for producing the ballot papers for the two regions. The discovery raised concerns about the security of the electoral materials, prompting swift action from the EC to prevent any potential compromise.
The EC reassured the public of its commitment to ensuring a free, fair, and transparent election. The reprinting process is expected to be completed promptly, with enhanced security measures in place. Investigations into the incident are ongoing, and the Commission has urged calm among the electorate.
