President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has cast doubt on former President John Dramani Mahama’s proposed 24-hour economy policy, questioning its viability given Mahama’s past challenges in managing the country’s power supply.
Speaking at an address to the Labour Commission on Monday, President Akufo-Addo remarked, “How can John Mahama maintain a 24-hour economy policy when he couldn’t even ensure the lights stayed on for 12 hours?” The comment drew applause from the audience, emphasizing the president’s stance on the former leader’s handling of the energy crisis, popularly referred to as “dumsor,” during his tenure.
Akufo-Addo reiterated his administration’s commitment to stabilizing the energy sector and supporting economic growth. He highlighted ongoing investments in infrastructure and energy reforms, suggesting these measures are necessary to sustain round-the-clock economic activities.
The nation is gearing up for the general elections set to take place on Saturday, December 7, 2024. Voting will be conducted at various polling stations across the country as Ghanaians prepare to cast their ballots to elect a new president and members of parliament.
