Ghanaian dancehall artist Charles Nii Armah Mensah, better known as Shatta Wale, equated Vybz Kartel’s endorsement at the “Freedom Concert” to winning a Grammy Award.
During a media interview on January 8, 2024, the multiple award winning artist expressed immense gratitude for Vybz Kartel acknowledging him as the “King of Dancehall.” He revealed that performing alongside the legendary Jamaican artist had been a lifelong dream.
“It has been beautiful, and it’s like a dream come true for Shatta Movement fans because everyone knew me from day one,” Wale stated. “For me to reach the level of Vybz Kartel and perform with him is such a good feeling,” he said.
He further elaborated, “For Vybz Kartel to endorse somebody like Shatta Wale is like winning a Grammy [Award] because he is a global icon, everyone loves him, and he is one of the greatest.”
Additionally, Shatta Wale provided an explanation for his decision to play three particular songs during his Jamaican stage appearance.
