President John Dramani Mahama has announced a significant reduction in the number of government ministries from 30 to 23.
This measure, revealed through an Executive Instrument on January 9, 2025, is aimed at improving public service delivery and cutting the cost of government operations.
The decision aligns with a key campaign promise to streamline the government and promote efficient administration. President Mahama had pledged to reduce the overall size of government and limit ministerial positions to 60, emphasizing the need for accountability, cost-effectiveness, and focused governance.
The reconfiguration of ministries is part of a broader agenda to reform Ghana’s governance structure. According to the Executive Instrument, issued under section 11(3) of the Civil Service Act, 1993 (P.N.D.C.L. 327), some ministries have been merged to enhance efficiency and effectiveness in public service.
This bold move demonstrates the President’s commitment to restructuring the public sector and delivering on promises made to Ghanaians. By leveraging constitutional provisions, Mahama aims to create a streamlined, results-driven administration to meet the country’s development needs.
