The first incident occurred on December 16, 2024, when unknown individuals damaged the statue’s leg. Although it was repaired soon after, no arrests were made, leaving the perpetrators’ motives unclear.
Less than a week after Akufo-Addo left office as president, the statue was entirely toppled in this latest act of vandalism. Its placement near the Effia Nkwanta Regional Hospital symbolized his administration’s efforts to expand healthcare access and improve infrastructure, particularly in underserved communities.
The attack has sparked conversations about the protection of public monuments and the respect for symbols of national progress. Authorities have yet to identify those responsible, and calls are growing for stronger security measures to safeguard such landmarks.
