The Office of the President has announced the dissolution of statutory boards, corporations, commissions, and councils, effective January 7, 2025, coinciding with the swearing-in of President John Dramani Mahama.
This directive aligns with the provisions of the Presidential (Transition) Act, 2012 (Act 845). The Acting Spokesperson to the President, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, made this known in a notice issued to the public.
The directive applies to all individuals appointed to these bodies by former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo or a former Minister of State. However, the statement clarified that independent constitutional commissions are exempt from the directive.
The reconstitution of the dissolved boards, commissions, councils, and corporations will occur in accordance with their respective enabling laws. President Mahama extended gratitude to outgoing members for their dedication and service to the nation, wishing them well in their future endeavors.
Meanwhile, management of the affected bodies has been instructed to seek clearance from the Chief of Staff before making any major decisions until new boards are constituted.
This move underscores the government’s commitment to adhering to constitutional processes during the transition. It also signals the administration’s intent to bring renewed leadership and focus to these statutory bodies in alignment with its governance objectives.
