Asante Kotoko striker Albert Amoah will be sidelined for approximately two months after suffering a partial tear of the anterior talo-fibular ligament in his right ankle. The injury was confirmed following a thorough medical assessment after he was forced off the pitch during a recent league match.
The incident occurred during a tense game against rivals Medeama SC at the T&A Park. Amoah, who had been in impressive form, suffered an awkward fall during a challenge. Despite initial attempts to continue, the pain was too severe, forcing his substitution and immediate medical attention.
Head coach Prosper Nartey Ogum acknowledged the setback, stating, “It’s tough losing both Albert [Amoah] and [Emmanuel] Kotei at this busy stage of the season. Albert [Amoah] is naturally strong, but his reaction to the impact was worrying. Injuries are part of the game, though, and we’re hopeful he’ll recover quickly, as he’s done before.”
Amoah, who currently leads the Porcupines’ scoring chart with seven goals, will be a significant loss for the team. However, there is optimism within the Kotoko camp. The recent return of striker Kwame Poku, coupled with the arrival of new signing Sampson Eduku, provides hope that the team can maintain their title charge. Both players possess unique attacking qualities and will be expected to shoulder the scoring burden in Amoah’s absence.
Asante Kotoko, currently sitting in 5th position on the Premier League table, will be aiming to regain momentum and challenge for the top spot. Losing their leading scorer is a substantial blow for the Porcupine Warriors, but they will be relying on the depth of their squad to navigate this challenging period.
Kotoko will host Vision FC in their next league game on January 19th as they look to climb the table.
