Hearts of Oak midfielder Kwesi Asmah expressed his thoughts after making his debut against Basake Holy Stars in a Ghana Premier League match. “We aimed to win the game, so we will go back to the drawing board and come back again,” Asmah stated. “I am glad to make my debut, but there is more to come. The fans should keep on supporting us.”
The 22-year-old joined Hearts of Oak from second-tier side Na God FC for a reported transfer fee of GHC 40,000. He signed a two-and-a-half-year contract with the Ghana Premier League giants.
Kwesi Asmah was introducded in the 54th minute, replacing the injured Mohammed Hussein. While Asmah’s debut marked a positive moment, Holy Stars’ resilient performance ensured a share of the points. The draw leaves Hearts of Oak in 5th position with 30 points after 18 games, maintaining their pursuit of a top-four finish. Their next league challenge is against Hearts of Lions on January 31 at the University of Ghana Stadium.
Off the field, Hearts of Oak assistant coach Nana Yaw Amankwah addressed the struggles of striker Asamoah Boateng, who joined the club last summer from Nations FC.
Amankwah acknowledged Boateng’s potential but admitted his inconsistent performances. Notably, despite scoring 11 goals for Nations FC last season, Asamoah is yet to find the net in 11 league appearances for Hearts this season. “We don’t know what is happening to him,” Amankwah explained. “We know he can deliver, but at times he disappoints when given the opportunity in matchdays.” Despite the concerns, Amankwah offered support, promising to help Boateng rediscover his form. “We will work to help him rediscover his form in subsequent matches,” he affirmed.
This blend of new beginnings and ongoing challenges sets the stage for Hearts of Oak’s continued campaign in the Ghana Premier League. ED
