Emmanuel Bedzrah, Chairman of the committee investigating the vetting disruptions, has assured the public of a fair and transparent inquiry.
At a press conference on February 3, 2025, he emphasized the committee’s commitment to an impartial investigation. He urged MPs, the media, and attendees to share relevant information.
“The committee is not here to target or witch-hunt anyone. We aim to identify MPs who violated parliamentary rules.”
Speaker Alban Bagbin formed the seven-member committee on January 31, 2025. The decision followed violent clashes during the vetting on January 30. The committee’s goal is to find those responsible and recommend penalties.
To encourage public participation, the committee created a WhatsApp platform for information sharing. Moreover, they will hold public hearings to allow witnesses to testify.
The committee includes Emmanuel Bedzrah, Kwame Anyimadu-Antwi, Gizella Akushika Tetteh-Agbotui, Abena Osei Asare, Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, Vincent Oppong Asamoah, and Bede Anwataazuma Ziedeng.
Speaker Bagbin warned that Parliament will not cover repair costs for damages. Instead, MPs responsible will pay for repairs through surcharges.
Currently, four MPs are serving a two-week suspension due to their involvement in the chaos. The committee’s findings will help restore discipline and accountability in Parliament.
