Greater Accra Regional Minister Linda Akweley Ocloo has pledged to restore 70% of Accra’s streetlights within 50 days to enhance security and visibility.
She identified fixing faulty streetlights as a top priority in her efforts to improve the capital’s infrastructure.
Speaking to journalists in Accra on Monday, February 3, she reaffirmed her commitment to well-lit streets within 50 days.
“In fact, within 50 days, all these things should be fixed. I will ensure at least 70% of streetlights are repaired.
“These are some of the things we will check. I will work closely with Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAs),” she added.
The Greater Accra Minister also highlighted security and sanitation as her key focus areas for the capital city.
During her first meeting with Greater Accra Regional Coordinating Council staff, she announced the reintroduction of Regional Sanitation Day.
She introduced a cleanest city award scheme aimed at improving sanitation in the capital.
She further stated that municipal and district assemblies would receive support under the government’s “Resetting Agenda” to become self-sustaining.
Ocloo also promised to work with traditional authorities and religious organizations to promote decentralization and participatory governance.
