President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has announced a $346 million payment to Eurobond holders, effective January 3, 2025, as part of Ghana’s commitment to honoring its financial obligations.
In his final State of the Nation Address (SONA), delivered on January 3, President Akufo-Addo stated, “I am happy to inform the House that today, 3rd January 2025, my government will honor coupon payments to our Eurobond holders amounting to $346 million. We cannot afford to default on our debt repayments.”
This announcement reflects the government’s efforts to uphold fiscal responsibility and maintain Ghana’s financial credibility.
The payment follows Ghana’s June 2024 agreement with Eurobond holders to restructure its debt, aimed at supporting the country’s economic recovery in alignment with the International Monetary Fund (IMF)-financed program.
The Eurobond holders’ committee has lauded Ghana’s dedication to sustainable economic policies, noting their role in boosting investor confidence, strengthening macroeconomic stability, and ensuring long-term fiscal discipline.
