Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti remained cautious about potential January signings, saying, “We’ll see,” when asked about strengthening his squad. This comes after Liverpool swiftly rejected Real Madrid’s attempt to acquire highly-rated right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold, a top target for the Spanish giants.
The former Chelsea boss emphasized the importance of focusing on upcoming matches, stating, “Talking about the market isn’t straightforward for me right now. We have a lot of games in January, and that’s our primary focus.”
The absence of first-choice right-back Dani Carvajal through injury has heightened the need for defensive reinforcements. However, Ancelotti expressed confidence in his current squad. “I’m pleased with the team we have. We’ve faced challenges, but we’ve always overcome them,” he said.
The return of centre-back David Alaba from injury has provided a boost to the team’s defensive stability. “Now we have games to win,” Ancelotti said, “The team has reacted well and is now more motivated, excited, and in better form.”
Real Madrid currently trails Atlético Madrid by a point in the La Liga standings and holds a two-point advantage over Barcelona, who have experienced a recent dip in form. “Nobody expected it, the results [Barcelona] have had in recent games,” Ancelotti acknowledged. “But the level of competitiveness in the league means you’ll need fewer points to win the league. With Atlético, us and Barcelona, that means more uncertainty and the points you need [to win the league] will be under 90.”
Carlo Ancelotti declined to comment on Barcelona’s recent difficulties in registering star player Dani Olmo for the second half of the La Liga season. “I don’t know the details,” he said. “What I can say is respect for all the clubs, the institutions and the rules. But I can’t answer.”
Real Madrid will face Valencia on Friday, January 3rd, in their next La Liga encounter.
