Ouagadougou, In a move that underscores regional solidarity, Burkina Faso has made a significant decision to permit the export of crucial cereals to its neighboring country, Niger. The announcement, made by authorities in Burkina Faso, comes as Niger faces a pressing need to import around 600,000 tons of grains to avert a looming humanitarian crisis.
The West African nation of Burkina Faso, despite grappling with its own food security challenges, has extended a helping hand to Niger by allowing the export of millet, maize, sorghum, and beans. This display of solidarity is intended to alleviate the pressing food shortage crisis in Niger.
Notably, Burkina Faso had suspended its own cereal crop exports, including millet, maize, sorghum, and beans, back in November 2022 due to its own internal food requirements.
