The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced a significant 75% increase in prize money for the winners of the upcoming 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN).
This decision reflects CAF’s commitment to promoting football development across Africa and enhancing the prestige of the tournament.
The 2024 CHAN, set to be hosted jointly by Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda, will now offer a record USD 3.5 million to the champion. Additionally, the total prize pool has been increased by 32%, ensuring that participating teams also benefit significantly.
This groundbreaking adjustment not only incentivizes competitive performance but also underscores CAF’s efforts to boost football’s financial appeal on the continent.
The move comes as CHAN continues to grow in importance, providing a platform exclusively for players who compete in their home countries’ domestic leagues.
CAF President Dr. Patrice Motsepe reiterated the organization’s dedication to supporting local footballers and enhancing opportunities for talent development.
The increased prize money is expected to inspire greater participation and investment in African football.
“We are excited about the upcoming TotalEnergies CAF African Nations Championship (CHAN) Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda 2024 and have significantly increased the Prize Money of the Winner to USD 3.5 million which is an increase of 75 percent.
We have also increased the total Prize Money of the CHAN Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda 2024 to USD 10.4 million which is a 32 percent increase,” Dr Motsepe said
As anticipation builds for the 2024 CHAN in East Africa, the increased prize pool is set to elevate the championship’s significance in African football history. This bold move reaffirms CAF’s vision to transform football into a lucrative and inspiring sport across the continent.
