Chris Hughton Reveals 55-Man Provisional Squad for AFCON 2023

In anticipation of the upcoming Total Energies Africa Cup of Nations Cote d’Ivoire 2023, Chris Hughton, the coach of the Ghana national football team, the Black Stars, has unveiled a formidable 55-man provisional squad. Premier League champions Medeama SC dominate the list with five players, including Hamidu Abdul Fatawu, Felix Kyei, Abdulai Nurudeen, Jonathan Sowah, and Derrick Fordjour.
The squad boasts a mix of seasoned professionals and promising home-based talents. Among the notable inclusions are Emmanuel Antwi and Benjamin Asare from Accra Great Olympics, John Antwi and Godfred Atuahene representing Dreams FC, Razak Simpson of Nations FC, and Richmond Lamptey from Asante Kotoko.
Fans will be pleased to see key names in the roster, such as Mohammed Kudus, Joseph Wollacott, Andre Ayew, Jordan Ayew, Alexander Djiku, Antoine Semenyo, Inaki Williams, Thomas Partey, Abdul Samed Salis, and Majeed Ashimeru. Notably, AS Monaco player Mohammed Salisu, absent since the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 due to injury, makes a return to the provisional list.
Grouped in Group B, the Black Stars are set to face tough competition from Egypt, Mozambique, and Cape Verde in the Africa Cup of Nations Cote D’Ivoire 2023. The tournament is scheduled to take place from Saturday, January 13, to Sunday, February 11, 2024.
