The Electoral Commission (EC) has suspended the special voting exercise scheduled for Monday, December 2, 2024, to Thursday, 5th, 2024 in the Eastern and Western regions. This decision follows the recent recall and reprinting of ballot papers due to a reported security breach.
Jean Mensa, Chairperson of the EC, announced the suspension during an emergency press briefing on Sunday, December 1, 2024. She explained that the suspension was necessary to ensure the integrity of the electoral process after National Security discovered a defaced ballot paper at the Checkpoint Printing House, where the ballots for the two regions were being printed.
The EC emphasized that the reprinting process is ongoing, with heightened security measures in place to prevent further incidents. The Commission assured the public of its commitment to delivering a free, fair, and transparent election and urged voters to remain patient as they work to rectify the situation.
