The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has announced plans to hold a Ghana Football Retreat. The retreat, slated for November 28, 2024, at the Ghanaman Soccer Center of Excellence, aims to gather insights and strategies to enhance the performance of the Black Stars and other national teams.
This initiative was discussed during the GFA’s first meeting following the Black Stars’ failure to qualify for AFCON. The association aims to foster a collective effort to bring back the nation football legacy by engaging with stakeholders from diverse backgrounds.
The retreat follows a wave of passion and concern expressed by football fans, stakeholders, and the general public regarding the state of Ghana football. According to the GFA, this platform will bring together key figures and institutions, including:
- Members of the Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) and the media
- National Sports Authority and Professional Footballers Association of Ghana (PFAG)
- Former captains, players, coaches, and football enthusiasts
- Traditional rulers, opinion leaders, and sports-related professionals such as medics, marketers, and economists
Government representatives from the Ministries of Sports, Finance, and Education, as well as agencies like the Ghana Revenue Authority and Ghana Tourism Authority, will also be in attendance.
“The primary purpose of this retreat is to solicit views and perspectives from stakeholders of Ghana football,” the GFA said in a statement. “The output will serve as a foundation for developing a roadmap to improve the performance of our national teams.”
The GFA acknowledged the frustrations of Ghanaian football enthusiasts, thanking them for their patience and assuring them of efforts to restore confidence in the sport.
