The Ghana Football Association (GFA) is planning significant changes within the Black Stars’ technical team following a marathon review meeting held last week. The roles of assistant coach and goalkeepers’ trainer, currently occupied by John Paintsil and Fatau Dauda, are under scrutiny as part of the restructuring process.
This shake-up comes at the request of head coach Otto Addo, who stressed the need for improvements in his backroom staff during his recent meeting with the GFA Executive Council. Addo’s push for changes highlights the urgency to address technical shortcomings in the team.
The restructuring follows Ghana’s underwhelming performance in the 2024 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers. The Black Stars finished at the bottom of Group F with just three points, recording three draws and three losses. This marks the first time in two decades that the four-time African champions have failed to qualify for Africa’s premier football tournament.
Looking ahead, the Black Stars will return to action in March 2025 with World Cup qualifiers against Chad and Madagascar, as they aim to rebuild and restore their reputation on the global stage.
The anticipated changes within the technical team are expected to play a pivotal role in revitalizing the team’s fortunes and ensuring better performances in future competitions.
