Kwaku Manu, a well-known Ghanaian actor and supporter of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has voiced his displeasure with the way the party has treated former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and Dr. Bawumia.
In a recent interview, Manu claimed that Nana Addo used his position of authority to elevate Dr. Bawumia to prominence. However, he alleged that the NPP is unwilling to support Dr. Bawumia’s future presidential ambitions now that Nana Addo is no longer in office.
He further suggested that the party is focused on using its resources to assert control, disregarding the contributions of both leaders.
“The NPP will not permit Dr. Bawumia to run for president again because Nana Addo brought him into the spotlight. Now that Nana Addo is no longer in power, they will convince him that the party truly supports their agenda,” Manu claimed.
Kwaku Manu also remarked on the shift in attitude within the party towards Addo-Addo. “When NPP members meet Nana Addo and he misbehaves, they now tell him, ‘When you’re in power, you have authority, but since you’re no longer in power, no one is afraid of you.’”
The Kumawood actor, who had previously campaigned for the NPP, also criticised Nana Addo’s approach to handling issues involving chiefs and monarchs during his presidency.
“There are moments when I find it hard to accept that Nana Addo is no longer our president. I recall the party’s significant national impact during the campaigns. However, Nana Addo mishandled several issues with chiefs and monarchs, and it wasn’t the right approach,” Manu concluded.
