Ghana’s Parliament has unanimously passed a Anti-LGBTQ bill that prescribes a 3-year jail term for identifying as LGBTQ+ and a 5-year imprisonment for promoting LGBTQ+ activities.
The Parliament of Ghana has today passed the ‘Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill, 2021’ aka anti-LGBTQ Bill
On this date, February 28, 2024, a motion for the Third Reading was moved and seconded – paving way for the passage of the Bill.
The bill awaits assent by the President of the land, H.E. Akuffo-Addo.
Ghana’s parliament has been firm on passing this bill for a long time. At a point, the mixed perceptions about this bill became so loud that some thought it’s an infringement on the right of others.
Some also believed such practice frowns on the humanity of Ghanaians based on cultural background.
According to the MP for Ningo Prampram, Hon. Sam George, who has been very vocal in passing the bill, he believes H.E Akuffo-Addo will be a man of his words and assent the bill.
