Ibrahim Tanko, the head coach of Accra Lions Football Club, has mutually agreed with the club’s management to step aside and focus on other important projects.
In a statement, Tanko expressed his pride in his time with the club: “I leave the role with immense pride, knowing that Accra Lions is more than just a club—it is family. While I am stepping away to focus on other projects, my bond with the team remains strong, and I will always be available to support the club in any way.”
The 47-year-old coach emphasized that his departure may be temporary, stating, “The door will always remain open for me to return and play a role in our journey of developing talent and achieving success.”
Ibrahim Tanko guided Accra Lions to a commendable second-place finish in the 2023/24 Ghana Premier League season. However, the club has struggled this season, currently sitting 17th on the league table with 13 points after 16 matches.
German trainer Rainer Kraft, who previously led the club to Ghana Premier League promotion in 2021, has been appointed as the new head coach. Kraft boasts a 66% win rate in 124 matches (83 wins, 25 draws, 16 losses) during his previous tenure. His first match in charge will be the league match against Bibiani Gold Stars on January 19th.
