Former President John Dramani Mahama has criticized the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) government for the Black Stars’ failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco. Mahama, addressing supporters in a recent campaign, attributed the team’s dismal performance in the qualifiers to what he described as poor governance and misplaced priorities by the current administration.
The Black Stars, once a dominant force in African football, delivered an underwhelming performance in the qualifiers. They managed only three draws and suffered three losses in six matches, scoring a paltry three goals throughout the campaign. Competing in a group alongside Niger, Angola, and Sudan, the team’s inability to secure a spot in the tournament left many fans disappointed and questioning the state of Ghanaian football and the tactics of Coach Otto Addo.
The 2025 AFCON in Morocco will proceed without the Black Stars, marking a significant low point in Ghanaian football history.
