Fenerbahce manager Jose Mourinho has allayed concerns after reports emerged regarding a planned surgical procedure.
The Portuguese tactician, who led his side to a 1-1 draw against Eyupspor in their final match before the Christmas break, confirmed the surgery but downplayed its severity.
In a video message posted on Instagram, Mourinho stated, “For those of you that have shown concern, I can confirm reports of my surgery have been greatly exaggerated, it’s just a quick and minor procedure.” He further emphasized his commitment to his duties, declaring, “I will resume training on the first day back from the holidays, as always. I’ve never missed a session in 25 years, and I don’t intend to start now.”
The surgery, reportedly a gallbladder removal, is scheduled to take place during the Christmas holiday period. Mourinho, however, admitted that the break would not be entirely relaxing. “We will have a few days off but it will not be a happy time off for me,” he confessed. “Actually, I would prefer not to have this time off but we promised the players long ago.”
Despite the setback, Jose Mourinho remains optimistic about Fenerbahce’s chances of winning the Super Lig title. Currently trailing leaders Galatasaray by eight points, the Portuguese manager refused to concede defeat. “Nobody is going to convince me that even with the distance that we have with the leaders we don’t have a chance to win [the title],” he asserted. “I refuse to think this way. For me it’s still open.”
Fenerbahce will return to action on January 5, 2025 when they host Hatayspor in the Turkish Super Lig.
