Robert Klah, the Head of Public Events and Communication of Charterhouse, says the Group of the Year category has been scrapped for the third time due to the nature of its competitiveness.
Nominees for Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA), formerly Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA) was announced on 28rh March 2024, and Group of the year category was missing ince again.
In an interview on Hitz FM, he explained that unlike the other categories, the Group of the Year category is not competitive enough.
“The Group of the Year once again is not competitive which is why there isn’t a category for it.”
Robert also noted that the decision to scrap that category is not permanent; and when a time comes that there is enough competition, they’ll bring it back.
“When there comes a time when the group becomes competitive, they will definitely be nominated. Check other categories and tell me if the ‘Group of the Year’ is as competitive as the other categories within the year. – Robert Klah.
The VGMAs has seen music groups such as Keche (2021), DopeNation (2020), Bethel Revival Choir (2019), Wutah (2018), VVIP (2017) and more win that category.
