Laryea Kingston, a former Ghana international, has appealed to the FA to retain Otto Addo as the head coach of the Black Stars, even though the team fell short of qualifying for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
Ghana’s absence from the prestigious tournament, the first in two decades, has sparked widespread criticism, with many fans and pundits demanding significant changes, including the dismissal of Coach Otto Addo. However, Kingston believes the coach deserves a chance to redeem himself and guide the team forward.
Speaking to Flashscore, the former Black star player highlighted the importance of stability within the technical setup, warning that a swift overhaul could disrupt the team’s progress in upcoming World Cup qualifiers. He expressed confidence that Addo has reflected on the team’s shortcomings during the qualifiers and can implement necessary adjustments.
“Making abrupt changes at this point could be detrimental,” Kingston remarked. “It’s crucial to give him another opportunity to address the issues and possibly steer the team to success in the World Cup qualifiers.”
Coach Otto Addo has been under pressure after failing to qualify Ghana to the upcoming Afcon in Morocco after an embarrassing performance in the qualifies to see Ghana left out of participating in the tournament in January. After the defeat against Niger at the Accra sport Stadium the coach made it clear to the fans that he is not willing to resign as the head coach of the Blackstar meaning he is determine to change the situation of the Blackstar’s to qualify the country to the long awaited World Cup in US.
