Dj and OAP for Takoradi based Connect FM, Magnus Koomson, affably known as DJ MAGNUS, has penned down a letter to Hon. Andrews Egyapa Mercer after he was appointed to replace outgoing Hon. Ibrahim Awal Mohammed as Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture in the current reshuffle President Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo Addo.
The letter underscores the importance to improve the Center for National Culture which is in a deplorable state.
The letter reads;
“Dear Hon. Andrew Egyapa Mercer, I trust this letter finds you well and in good spirits.
“Allow me to extend my heartfelt congratulations on your recent appointment as the Minister of Tourism and Creative Art and Culture.
“Your selection marks a significant moment for our region, as you become the third minister from the Western Region to oversee this vital sector, following in the footsteps of Hon. Catherine Abelema Afeku and Hon. Barbara Oteng Gyasi. It is a testament to the wealth of talent and potential within our region, which has historically been fortunate in this regard.
“However, despite the illustrious lineage of ministers from our region, the fortunes of our community within the tourism and creative arts sector have not seen the desired improvement. This brings me to the purpose of my correspondence today – to draw your attention to a matter of great significance to our region: the completion of the Centre for National Culture in Fijai, Sekondi.
“As you may recall, the construction of this cultural landmark commenced many years ago during the tenure of His Excellency Jerry John Rawlings, the first president of Ghana’s Fourth Republic. Despite promises made by successive administrations, the project remains incomplete, leaving a palpable sense of disappointment and frustration among our creative community, particularly event organizers.
“The lack of suitable event centers in the area poses a significant challenge, hindering the growth and vibrancy of our cultural scene.
Once completed, the Centre for National Culture will accommodate up to 5000 individuals and inject new life into the creative space, enhancing the city’s nightlife, and unveiling more talents. Moreover, it is imperative to recognize that investment in such infrastructure is not only prudent but also economically viable, as the revenue generated from its utilization will contribute to its sustainability.
“Given your esteemed position as the Member of Parliament for the Sekondi Constituency, where the edifice is located, I firmly believe that your tenure as Minister for the Tourism and Creative Art, and Culture sector presents a golden opportunity to bring this long-awaited project to fruition. By prioritizing the completion of the Centre for National Culture, you have the chance to leave an indelible mark on history, and your constituents will undoubtedly reward you for your efforts.
“Undoubtedly, navigating the complexities of government bureaucracy and securing the necessary funding for such a project may present challenges. However, I implore you to seize this opportunity and make the completion of the Centre for National Culture a top priority of your stewardship. Your leadership and dedication to this cause will not only enrich the cultural landscape of our region but also demonstrate your unwavering commitment to serving the needs and aspirations of our community.
“I stand ready to offer my full support and assistance in any way possible to help bring this project to fruition. Together, let us work towards realizing the vision of a vibrant and thriving Centre for National Culture that will serve as a beacon of cultural excellence and pride for generations to come.
Thank you for your attention to this important matter, and I eagerly anticipate the positive impact of your leadership on our community.”
Yours Sincerely,
Magnus Koomson,
