The Majority Leader, Mahama Ayariga, has reaffirmed the National Democratic Congress (NDC) caucus’s strong support for the Anti-Gay Bill, maintaining that the legislation must be passed.
His comments came in response to President John Dramani Mahama’s recent suggestion that a government-backed bill could better facilitate broader consultations and national consensus on the issue.
President Mahama made the remark during a meeting with the Bishops on January 14, 2025. He also highlighted the need to revise Ghana’s school curriculum to incorporate moral and cultural education aimed at instilling Ghanaian and African values in young learners.
In a monitored interview with Channel One TV on Monday, January 27, Mahama Ayariga clarified that legislative proposals not concluded within a parliamentary term typically lapse, along with the administration under which they were introduced. He reiterated the NDC’s commitment to the Anti-Gay Bill, dismissing any speculation about a shift in the party’s position.
