New Medeama SC head coach, Ibrahim Tanko, has pledged his full commitment to driving the club to greater success. In his first interview since taking the helm, the former Ghana U-23 coach expressed confidence in his ability to guide the team and bring joy to its supporters.
“I believe we will all enjoy this journey, and I’m optimistic about the team’s performance. My commitment to the fans is to always give my best, and I am confident they will be satisfied with the results,” Tanko stated.
Tanko, who guided Accra Lions to a commendable second-place finish in the Ghana Premier League last season, recently departed the club after a struggling start to the current league campaign. He succeeds Augustine Evans Adotey at Medeama and is eager to build on the club’s past achievements, including their historic maiden Ghana Premier League title win during the 2022/23 season, and further solidify the club’s reputation. His main goal is to add even more trophies to the club’s collection.
“We always aim for improvement. The club has already experienced success, and I am here to achieve even more. By the end of my tenure, I am confident we will have added more silverware to our collection,” he added.
Medeama SC officially announced Tanko’s appointment on a two-and-a-half-year contract on Wednesday. The UEFA License A holder has now completed the formalities and is set to begin his tenure in Tarkwa, where expectations are high.
Ibrahim Tanko brings extensive coaching experience from his time at Borussia Dortmund, the Ghana national teams, and various roles in Germany and Cameroon. His recent success with Accra Lions, coupled with his broader experience, is expected to propel Medeama to new heights
Currently, Medeama sits seventh in the league with 26 points after 18 matches. Tanko’s first challenge will be against relegation-battling Legon Cities on February 2nd, where he will look to make an immediate impact. ED
