Sheikh Osman Nuhu Sharubutu, the National Chief Imam, paid a courtesy call on President-elect John Dramani Mahama in Accra to congratulate him on his victory in the December 7 elections. During the meeting, Mahama expressed his deep appreciation for the gesture, noting that the Chief Imam had also extended his congratulations during Mahama’s previous electoral loss, demonstrating unwavering support.
“I am pleased with this kind gesture from the Chief Imam,” Mahama said. “He didn’t only congratulate me when I won, but also when I lost. This shows his genuine commitment to peace and unity. I am truly honored.”
Mahama also acknowledged the importance of the Imam’s prayers throughout the election process, which he believes played a significant role in their success. He further extended condolences to those who lost their lives during the election and called for a thorough investigation into the deaths. “We would not have achieved this without your prayers,” Mahama added. “I have made a courtesy call to the sitting president to start an investigation into the deaths.”
