Somaliland, A fresh wave of insurgency has erupted in the region as a faction of soldiers defected from the Somaliland armed forces to establish the “Gaanlib Mountain Rebels.” Nestled in the central expanse of the State, on the formidable Gaanlib mountain, this rebel group vows to combat what they label as a repressive regime led by the incumbent president. Allegations of stifling opposition, oppressing civilians, and wreaking havoc on the economy fuel the rebels’ determination.

The insurgents struck first in the vicinity of Go’da Yar, where they launched a brazen attack. In the aftermath, nine police officers tragically lost their lives, while seventeen others sustained injuries. The assault also left two police vehicles in ruins, bearing the unmistakable mark of the rebels’ audacious debut.
Responding to the unsettling turn of events, Somaliland’s Interior Minister, Mohamed Kahin Ahmed, pointed an accusing finger at the opposition. He suggested potential involvement in bolstering the newly formed rebel group, further fueling speculations and tensions within the political landscape.
