The race to the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN) continues to heat up, with Niger and Sudan becoming the latest teams to secure their spots in the prestigious tournament.
Niger edged past Togo on away goals after a goalless draw in the second leg of their qualifier. The first leg had ended in a 1-1 stalemate, giving the Mena A’ side the crucial advantage.
Meanwhile, Sudan comfortably advanced with a 2-1 victory over Ethiopia in the second leg, adding to their 2-0 win in the first leg. Musa Kanti and Mohamed Abdelrahman scored for Sudan, while Bekele Berhane netted for Ethiopia.
These victories mark Niger’s fifth appearance and Sudan’s fourth in the CHAN, highlighting their consistent performances in the competition.
The qualifiers are far from over, with several crucial matches scheduled for December 28 and 29. Burkina Faso will attempt to overturn a 2-0 deficit against Côte d’Ivoire, while Cameroon aims to hold onto their slim lead against the Central African Republic. Nigeria host Ghana after goalless draw in Accra.
Mali will also be looking to recover from a 1-0 loss in the first leg against Mauritania.
The 2024 CHAN, exclusively for players competing in domestic leagues, is set to take place from February 1 to 28, 2025, co-hosted by Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania.
