Ghanaian highlife legend, Kofi Bentil, has labelled Okyeame Kwame as a lucky musician who has been pushed by the advent of social media.
This comes when the legend appeared on the One King Show, hosted by the elegant Herty, in a conversation about the strength of highlife music on the market.
One could recall that Okyeame once claimed that even though some younger artistes from Ghana are still doing highlife, they don’t want to call their songs as such because the older generation didn’t make the genre attractive enough. This statement from Okyeame Kwame was referenced by Herty.
In response, Kofi Bentil undervalued the statement by Okyeame Kwame and labelled him as a lucky musician who knows nothing about music.
“That guy is a lucky guy so he’s saying his bit. He doesn’t know what music is. Sometimes they make people talk out of pain. He’s a dressmaker and had the chance to be with Okyeame Quophi (whom they together formed the Akyeame music group); why is Okyeame Quophi a presenter now?… You are lucky because of the advent of social media. We didn’t have that in our time. You’re lucky to have social media so you need to do something that will take you far and not be complacent,” he stated.
