The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has set up an 11-member committee, chaired by former Speaker of Parliament Prof. Mike Oquaye, to analyze the party’s defeat in the 2024 general elections.
Tasked with a three-month mandate, the committee will assess the party’s internal elections, campaign strategy, and the factors contributing to the loss. The group will also recommend measures to rebuild and regain voter confidence.
NPP General Secretary Justin Frimpong Kodua said the review will focus on understanding the challenges faced and outlining actionable solutions for future success.
The Electoral Commission declared John Dramani Mahama the winner of the 2024 presidential election on December 9. Mr. Mahama secured 6,328,397 votes (56.55%), defeating the NPP’s candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, who garnered 4,657,304 votes (41.61%).
The victory also saw the National Democratic Congress (NDC) gain a majority in Parliament, capturing over 180 seats, including key constituencies previously held by the NPP. This strengthens Mahama’s mandate as he prepares to lead Ghana again.
