Professor Stephen Adei, a former Rector of the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA), has cautioned President-elect John Dramani Mahama against appointing a new Chairperson for the Electoral Commission (EC).
Speaking on the matter, Prof. Adei emphasized the importance of preserving the integrity and independence of the Electoral Commission, particularly at a time when the country is working to maintain its democratic stability. He expressed concerns that appointing a new EC Chairperson during Mahama’s tenure could raise suspicions about the neutrality of the Commission and potentially erode public trust in Ghana’s electoral process.
“Don’t appoint new Electoral commision Chair allow Jean Mensah to work” Prof. Adei stated.
President-elect John Dramani Mahama is scheduled to be sworn in as president on January 7th, following his victory in the 2024 election. Subsequent appointments will be made, with Prof. Adjie advising Mahama to retain Jean Mensah as the Electoral Commission chairperson
