Asante Kotoko legend Rev. Osei Kofi has opened up about the family challenges that led to his controversial move from Hearts of Oak to their fierce rivals, Asante Kotoko.
Speaking on Channel One TV, the former Ghanaian international shared an emotional story of how his father’s struggles influenced his decision.
“My father ate leftovers from what the woman sold in the market. He was old and weak, and when he told me he wanted a divorce, the court demanded £30,” Osei Kofi recounted.
Following Hearts of Oak’s 1964 league triumph, a Kotoko official made a life-changing suggestion to Mr. Adusei.
“Someone told Mr. Adusei, ‘Why don’t you pay the £30 so Osei can go to Kotoko?’ That night, I left Accra for Kumasi. The money was given to my father, and the divorce saved him,” he revealed.
The move marked a turning point in Osei Kofi’s illustrious career, as he became a legend at Kotoko and a beloved figure in Ghanaian football history
