Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has reiterated that Marcus Rashford will remain sidelined until he demonstrates the level of performance expected of a player at the club.
Rashford has been omitted from the squad for the last three matches following an interview in which he expressed a desire to leave Old Trafford.
While acknowledging Rashford’s desire to play,Ruben Amorim emphasized that his selection decisions are based solely on performance levels. “I speak with him every day, not about the interview but about the performance,” Amorim stated. “It’s my decision, only my decision. I’m trying to do things my way.”
The Portuguese manager outlined the criteria for Rashford’s return: “Be the best that he can be. If you have big talents, big performance, big responsibility, big engagement, push forward everybody in this moment.” Amorim stressed the importance of accountability, particularly for long-serving players, given the club’s current struggles. Manchester United are currently 13th in the Premier League table with 22 points from 17 matches.
Despite the ongoing media attention surrounding Rashford’s situation, Amorim maintains that it does not distract the team. “It’s not [a distraction] for me,” he said. “Not for the other players because everybody is there every day during training, they understand.”
The uncertainty surrounding Rashford’s future at Manchester United adds to the club’s challenges as they aim to climb the league standings. The Red Devils will look to turn their fortunes around in their next Premier League fixture against Wolverhampton Wanderers on December 26.
