The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has released an official statement updating the public on the post-examination activities for the 2024 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for school candidates.
According to the press release, the WASSCE commenced on August 5, 2024, and concluded on September 20, 2024. The marking of essays and other practical components of the papers, which began on November 7, 2024, ended on November 29, 2024.
However, WAEC highlighted a delay in scanning the objective test answer sheets due to technical issues involving broken-down scanners. Initially scheduled for November 1–30, the process remains incomplete. The council revealed that it is awaiting the release of GH₵118,000,000.00 from the Ministry of Education to facilitate repairs and ensure the smooth continuation of the scanning process and subsequent post-examination activities.
WAEC urged examination officials and the public to exercise patience, assuring that services would resume as soon as the required funds are provided. It also called on the public to disregard rumors circulating on social media regarding the release of results, emphasizing that results will only be announced once all processes are finalized.
The council reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring transparency and efficiency in handling the WASSCE results despite the challenges encountered.
