Ghanaian defender Tariq Lamptey shared his thoughts after scoring a crucial equaliser in Brighton’s 2-2 draw against Aston Villa in the English Premier League.
Speaking after the match, Lamptey said, “We’d like to have nicked it at the end, but after we got back on level terms, it felt like a fair result.” The 24-year-old right-back stepped up in the 82nd minute, finding the back of the net to salvage a point for the Seagulls.
Reflecting on his goal, he added, “I just arrived on the edge of the box, and it fell nicely for me. It was great to see it hit the back of the net.” Lamptey’s strike demonstrated his ability to deliver in critical moments for Brighton.
He also acknowledged the impact of Brighton’s substitutions, saying, “The changes we made helped. We know we have got quality players who can come off the bench and make a difference.” His praise highlighted the depth and resilience of the team, which battled hard to earn a point against a strong Aston Villa side.
Brighton took the lead in the 12th minute through Simon Adingra’s strike, but Aston Villa responded with Ollie Watkins converting a penalty in the 37th minute. Morgan Rogers then gave Villa the lead just two minutes into the second half. However, Lamptey’s late heroics denied Villa all three points.
The result leaves Brighton 10th in the Premier League standings with 28 points from 19 games. Their next challenge will be against Arsenal on January 4.
Tariq Lamptey has had a solid season so far, contributing three goals and two assists in 10 appearances across all competitions. With his contract set to expire in June 2025, the Ghanaian defender continues to prove his worth both on and off the pitch.
