Xheila, the talented daughter of Ghanaian highlife legend Nana Acheampong, has revealed why she prefers not to discuss her father during interviews. According to Xheila, her decision is driven by a desire to focus attention on her own music and artistic journey, rather than relying on her famous lineage.
As the daughter of a music icon, Xheila acknowledges that her father’s legacy can be both a blessing and a curse. While she is proud to be Nana Acheampong’s daughter, she is determined to carve out her own path in the music industry and establish her own unique identity.
“Basically I go for interviews to about myself and my music so if anything family, it should be at the back
“And I don’t want it to be like I’m riding on my father’s name. And people will start comparing and say ‘oh, when her sister (Gyakie) was coming she didn’t do that.’
I once did a TikTok video introducing myself and I said I was Baba Acheampong’s daughter and people started comparing me and Gyakie.
“And sometimes I talk about him during interviews and afterwards, the family takes the center stage instead of me who went for the interview. The headlines will go like Nana Acheampong’s daughter, Gyakie’s sister, before my name (Xheila). But it should be Xheila, Nana Acheampong’s daughter, and maybe Gyakie’s sister or something,” she said.
By choosing not to discuss her father in interviews, Xheila aims to shift the spotlight onto her own talents, music, and accomplishments. This bold move demonstrates her confidence in her abilities and her commitment to forging her own way in the competitive music landscape.
Xheila’s decision also underscores the importance of individuality and self-expression in the arts. By separating her own artistic identity from her father’s legacy, Xheila is able to explore her own creative vision and connect with her audience on her own terms.
